Obituary for Ernest Beatty "Ollie" Watts

Ernest Beatty "Ollie" Watts
Ernest (Ollie) Beatty Watts was born January 9, 1945 in The Pas, Manitoba to Ernest and Mona Watts. Ollie was their third child of five and he was their first son
Ollie, a long time resident of The Pas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the age of 73 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba
Ollie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna; sons Brad and Greg Watts; grandchildren, Emmy, Tanner and Chloe Watts; sister Gail (Finn) Nielsen; brother Larry (Laurie) Watts; brothers-in-law Vern (Sandra) and Lorne (Karen) Harness; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ollie was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Mona Watts; parents-in-law Delbert & Edna Harness, sister Gwen Wildi and brother Dwight (Connie) Watts.
Ollie grew up on Patrick Avenue as did a lot of relatives and friends. Patrick Avenue was a lively street as the kids would often by seen playing road hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer. The boys started building ramps to jump their bikes on. They built stilts and tried walking across the yard. The girls never tried either of those. Looked too dangerous. Hunting and fishing was a big part of his childhood as well.
There was always some big equipment or trucks in the yard. Ollie was always interested in how everything worked so it wasn’t a surprise when Ollie went to work at the age of 16 for Watts Brothers.
He drove the heavy duty equipment as well as the trucks. His work took him all over the place. North, south, east, west. Anywhere Watts Brothers had a job to do.
Ollie met and married Donna Harness. They were married in Benito, Manitoba on November 6, 1965. They raised two boys; Brad and Greg.
Ollie bought out Watt’s Brothers and later bought Brandy’s Septic Services. When Ollie retired, he sold Brandy’s to his son Greg.
Ollie enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and cooking. He made great soups. As a youngster, Ollie was involved in hockey as a goalie. He got involved with hockey after Donna and he were married. He helped coach the Women’s hockey team. Interesting! Ollie would be seen at the rink watching his son Brad play hockey and would go on road trips with the hockey team. As he got older, Ollie still loved to watch numerous sports on television.
Ollie liked to drive around and would drop in and visit the boys at Tom’s shop and Mel’s garage. Lots of gossip was shared at both places.
In his final days, Ollie received excellent care from the staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Thank you Dr. Kostyk and the nursing staff of the Acute Care Inpatient Unit.
Cremation has taken place and a family get together to celebrate Ollie’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6 or to The Pas Animal Shelter, Box 4079, The Pas, MB, R9A 1S2, would be greatly appreciated.
