In Loving Memory of
Joseph Ronald Bighetty
March 30, 1963—January 30, 2026
Joseph Ronald Bighetty was born Saturday, March 30, 1963 in Pukatawagan, MB, to Sarah and Johnny Bighetty. It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Joseph Ronald Bighetty on Tuesday, January 30, 2026 at the Lions Manor, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 62 years.
Born in Pukatawagan, Ronald spent most of his days in Granville Lake, where he had a lot memories with parents and siblings. This is where he learned his traditional way of life, off the land and his spiritual way of living, before he was taken from CFS where, his life was changed. He lived in Winnipeg until moving back to Granville Lake and Pukatawagan, where he got back in touch with his family roots and heritage of where he was from. Ronald was a friendly giant to whom ever he met. He loved being a father to those he met and he loved sharing his knowledge in culture and Cree language. Ronald would teach children along the way and spiritually way of life, he loved his herb smoke, he would go on long walks to get his sense of belonging and balance in life. Ronald loved to visit family and friends and share stories, some called him humorous. He always carried a traditional drum as well as his medicines, he truly was a spiritual believe and loved sharing his knowledge where ever the road took him.
Ronald leaves to mourn, his children John Cassius, Jasmine, Cheryl and always wished to make amends with his children. Ronald is also survived by brothers Gordon Bighetty Sr. (Irene Bighetty), Paul Bighetty (Corrine Bighetty), Clarence Bighetty (Brenda Traverse); sisters Angie Bighetty Pauline Bighetty and all Ronald’s extended family, too many to mention. If we missed anyone, it wasn’t intentional
Ronald was predeceased by his father Johnny Bighetty; mother Sarah Bighetty; brothers Ervin Bighetty, Harry Bighetty, Michael Bighetty, Arthur Bighetty; sisters Vivian Vanniewenhuizen, Lucille Bighetty.
Our beloved uncle’s last wishes were to be buried in Pukatawagan to be beside his nephews whom he loved and dearly missed, fly high to our beloved brother, nestow, uncle, cousin grandpa and beloved friend.
Gordon Bighetty: I love you adios, goodbye, and I will see you in heaven, and we will chip in when I see you.
Angie Bighetty, Pauline Bighetty, Clarence Bighetty and Paul: They would take uncle Ron on outing on the lands hunting, fishing, and building something, either traveling by skiddoo, boat motor, you name it, he will be sorely missed by his brothers Clarence and Paul.
Crystal Bighetty: I love you always and I'm going to miss your laughter and presence.
Shannon Bighetty: Uncle I remember when I was small and you were kind and strong, you really haven't changed a bit, as life has moved along and I will miss you dearly, love your niece and love you always.
David Bighetty: I will always remember my uncle giving me advice in life, don't do this, don't do that, then I went and did it, lol. Walk the good life, I believe I got his traditional way from him, I had to laugh one time at elections he started pounding his drum while everyone was going wild in anger, he really changed the whole scene, everybody took off, he made the whole community laugh and I remember making medicine with him when part of his nephew’s head blew up, sounded better in Cree, but yeah he was a good knowledgeable uncle and will be missed and I will miss his smile and gangster nod...
Saralynn Bighetty: I'm always going to remember how you were with the babies, how you taught them Cree and taught Casey how to use a hand drum, and how much Natalie loved you, the good laughs we had, everything you taught me how much love you had for me. I'm going to miss you so much, I wish just as hard as you did to come home....now your finally coming home not the way we wished, rest in peace your no longer in pain. Always in my heart.
